Last of over 70 photos taken, this is far more challenging than it looks, espeically since i just moved into this new apartment and haven't been able to find a lot of my stuff yet.

I performed this same shot on four different books, one a photo album before deciding to go with pages 98-99 of The Essential Neruda, a book of translated poetry by Pablo Neruda that was given to me for Valentine's Day earlier this year.

The filters are old Tiffen 72MM Series 9 for my Canon L2 High8 Video Camera, this is the most use they have seen in years- neither are red though :) Combined they give a good hue in my opinion plus the accidental spacing between them gives the upper middle of the heart a ribboning effect.

I own no lamps so this was lit with a bic lighter which gives it the soft touch that most people won't appericate i believe. I find that when using such old filters and poetry it was only fitting to go with candlelight, which in lue of no candle a lighter subbed nicely.

Also I did steal this idea from Konador- I was going through the DPCPrints and came across it and had to try it myself, it wasn't until after 30+ attempts I went looking for the photo's "actual page" and found that he can made a tutorial and had won a red ribbon for this set up in the shadows II challenge. Reading his comments he had borrowed the idea from someone else too :) I doubt mine will be as well received but I like it and feel like it has my own touch.

I like the different approach of cutting off the top of the filter, so you echo the shape of the top of the heart

This type of photo has been done so many times before. Thus, it meets the challenge appropriately, and technically it's a good photo. It just lacks creativity. Good luck in future challenges.

Good DOF and color, too bad it's been done before. You still get a decent score from me though, just in case you weren't aware of the previous shot on DPC.

it's a pity that this has now been so overdone; it's obviously an homage to a great concept, but i don't honestly think it adds anything new to the idea. composition wise it also appears a little off-kilter, like it's almost centered but isn't quite. i do find it interesting that it's spanish(?) on one side and english on the other - it's a good choice of pages. but overall, didn't really stir the soul - 4.

I like this image but I have seen it done before - no disrespect, your version is fine and I won't subtract any points in my score. Good job

very well done, but too much of a copy from the original. well executed though.

Hehehehehe...and oldie but a goodie.

This looks familiar. Is it the same person, or a copycat. I made one too after I read the tutorial, but I actually have a red filter.

It's kind of disappointing how people copy past challenges shots once and over again. You did good but where's the originality? 6.

This is a really good photo, however I find it a little distracting that the filter gets lost against the black background.

This is so unoriginal by now I don't know how to rate it....I'm very tired of this image on DPC. Can we please retire it once and for all????? I can see someone maybe wanting to reproduce it as a practical exercise but must it keep popping up in challenges. Does originality count for nothing?
06/13/2006 11:25:13 AM
Yes, yes...of course. ;^)

this has been overdone on this site...sorry, just lacks originality for me

This is a good shot but you're about the 3rd or 4th person to do something like this. While it's technically a good shot it lacks originality. Sorry!

Ive seen this somewhere hmmm

So this a copy of another photo?
06/12/2006 09:26:34 AM
A nice take on this concept, may be a little too centered. But still pretty good, clean and clear.

Sorry, but during challenges I don't think folks should submit their attempts at other people's work. It is fine for any other time and a great way to learn, just not during challenges.

I think I've seen this somewhere before.

there is a very similar shot in shadows II. If this is a copy of another photographer I think that the rating must be 1 if you are the same photographer this is a reply of that shot and you must have 1. The shot is very good but my rating is 1 for the copy.
best regards
