 For a basic editing challenge there quite a lot going on in this image, its been difficult to get the result within the basic restrictions. I wanted that early moring misty feel to it.

PS Work
Crop it down to get the faming
Levels to get white and black points
curves to soften the mid range tones
Photo filter applied to add in a touch of warmth
Saturation boosted to bring up the reds and greens ready for the next stage
Channel Mixer layer added and made into mono image. Played around with the various channels and saturation values to bring up the detail in the deer
Opacity of channel mixer layer reduced to allow just some of the colour back in (muted colour effect)

Very good shot, but a foregound subject framed by another foreground subject ... Then again, maybe it's a bokeh shot and the deer are a bonus. :) I'm subtracting all sorts of things, but I've still got to give it 8

I absoluetly love this composition, I just wish there was a little more highlights or detail in the deer. Great photo!

Fit to Contest: 3 out of 5, no real bottom frame, forground meant as frame is out of focus and not consistent with the trees framing the rest of the picture.
Technical Quality
Exposure/Lighting: 3 out of 5, subjects are a little dark and detail is lost.
Color/Graysale 3 out of 5, background is a little washed out. contrast is a little flat.
Focus/Sharpness 4 out of 5, again, the forground is out of focus and somewhat of a distracting element that doesn't fit with the rest of the picture.
Composition
Crop/Layout 4 out of 5, not bad but probably could have been better if you weren't trying to "frame" them for this contest.
Elements/Lines 4 out of 5
Scale to 9 6.3 out of 9
Subjective stuff
Interesting subject .1 Everybody loves deer :)

Would have preferred the deer to be a bit more exposed, but an excellent photo anyway. Love the low perspective.
