Challenge: Empty Room (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Creepy Abandoned House, GA
Date: Jun 4, 2006
Aperture: F/3.5
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/25

I walked into this scene pretty much exactly as you see it. I went into this abandoned house with my prop not knowing what was inside and here was this chair in front of the window with a power cord hanging down from the ceiling rigth above it (I tucked it up so it wouldn't show in the photo) and red paint was splashed all over the walls. I moved the chair so it was centered well in front of the window and snapped until I had the exposure I wanted. Then I moved the chair to the corner where there was more paint trying to get more of the "empty room" but I really liked the way this turned out and decided to go with it, even though the "room" part was pretty minimal.

The stuff on the blind is red paint.

The whole scene just struck me as very eerie, hence the title.

I was thinking the same thing. i think a little more aggressive processing would serve the photo better, but likely wouldn't score as well. it's got a nice creepy aura about it. i think maybe that's human innards splattered on the window, not paint.

you better have taken AJ with you to this creepy place.

oooh... This is nice! The red paint on the blind is perfect. What an odd place for a plug outlet?

I need to find an abandoned house around here!

How do I make this a favorite!!?

*edit - found the make favorite link.... and I did.

Great treatment and a image that has a strong emotional impact and to think that for the "blood / paint" was already there... scary. The exposure is perfect, very well done.

Nice finish Jen, first thing I thought of after your description was someone was leaving a message with that set up... or worse.

This picture definitely takes the top spot for creating the perfect atmosphere. And the brown colours are so gorgeous and the composition is perfect.

Mort can keep it - looks a bit tattered. ;-) Nice job.

Though the subject is really gruesome, I must say that the photo is very well done. Excellent lighting and composition. Good balance between the thing and the space, and the title adds a story for the full package.

I really like the tone and feel of this image. I'm not sure what the 'stringy' thing in the window is, but it doesn't help the image IMO.

I do not feel the emptiness of the room because such a small part of it is shown.

I like very much! It's a bit dark in mood, but I think it gives it character.

Could have been better if chair was not centered.

You really have to study this. Great title. The lighting and use of dead (no pun intended) centering, helps to convey the message of the shot. 8

Highly interesting...particularly the "design" on that window...this has a story to it.

Probably would have gone with one more to the corner... not so "lined up". ;)
