My friend said I should get this dragon fly on our trash enclosure. The morning was chilly and the dragon fly wasn\'t about to move. I was almost late for an appointment, but did a quickie. The first try fired the flash--I\'d somehow left it on so of course it was overexposed. I squeezed off ONE more shot and dashed off to my appointment. Slight cropping and straightening.

Hi there,

First of all I want to congratulate you with your top 20 score, and your highest place until now. Doesn̢۪t that feel great?
Now on to the critique.
I am not sure how to improve this photo; I know what would have looked better, a plain background without the gap between the wood. But I also know that it would be impossible to capture him/her in that way.
It̢۪s also a bit centred for my taste, maybe if you stepped back just a tiny bit and tried to get the dragonfly more off-centred that it would be more visually attractive.
But again, I know that̢۪s difficult.

Seeing that this was a basic editing challenge and the subject you had to work with I think you can be very proud of your placing and your photo.

I hope this critique will help you in one way or the other.

Keep on shooting,

Peter

Like both the detail in the insect wings and the wood grain. That's a pleasing photo.

I like it, but its a bit dull. Did you see it in B&W or another color scheme? It may have been nice to experiment in order to really bring out the dragonfly and/or the wood grain.
