Greetings from the Critique Club:
I can understand why you like this shot so much. The overall impact is stunning. The man on the stage is clearly the focus of this shot and is beautifully highlighted. The tones of the image support the emotion of the power of being in the spotlight. The lines of the floors lead you to the lone man, while the lights move the eye from upper right to lower left. It shares power and strength.
As I studied the image, I noted the figures on stage, but almost immediately dismissed them as unimportant to the drama unfolding.
Technically, the image feels slightly soft in the focus, and off kilter as the wide angle has distorted the upper light. Perhaps using the skew tool to address that might have helped. Both of these things are minor.
You were hit very hard on meeting the challenge. As the comments indicate, many did not feel this was a single, artificial light source. Artificial, yes. Single, no. While a few were willing to view the spot on the man as the subject and single light source, many were not.
Overall: A strong, emotional image with minor technical issues which voters failed to believe met the challenge. Still an image to love and feel proud of.

The challenge operated on the "Use a single, artificial light source to dramatically light the subject of your choice." rule, not on the "Use a single light source on your photo. Period." rule.
Sheesh. I, for one, liked it. Bumped your score up a bit, to compensate for the low scores the others gave.
Great job, Mr.Devilman.

I will say your photograph despite being great got so poorly ranked because most of the people felt it has multiple lighting sources but still a great photograph |

That's a lot of light sources, but yeah, I see only one lighting your subject.
Let's hope DNMC trolls see it the same way. Good luck.
And that's a nice opera house, or whatever that is. Yeah. |

Nice feeling of space. I like the sole person in the light compared to the others in shadow. There are multiple light sources however. |

I would alm,ost swear I've played this gig - my immedaite thought is that it's Modena, but I suppose it could easily be any of a number of Italian Opera Houses, or further afield. You're certainly going to get hammered for all those auditorium light, though - perhaps unfairly, though your subject has the look of only being lit by one source, my suspicion is that there's at least a little cross light as well as that primary. I joke, really - the look is enough. I think a touch more sense of interaction would add to the image, whihc has a feel of a still thing at the moment, but it's well executed, and good luck with it. |

Well, only if you discount all other lights which, for a shot with this composition, would be strange. |

I count at LEAST 52 light sources. Even if I couldn't the stage and man have more than one light source from above |

Part of the appeal of this picture is the curve of the balconies. Problem is, they are lit by mulitple light sources. Maybe a tight shot of the guy, with the just the spotlight on him would have worked better. |

WOw. This looks like one of the beutiful theatres in Germany. Where is this? I'm not planning on voting, but I have a feeling you will be punished as it seems there are multiple light sources. That being said, I personally like this picture. Nothing like being on that side of the stage! |

There is nothing here (like a single spotlight) to have be believe the man is being lit by a single light source. |

oh man, I see what you're trying to do, but you're probably going to get nailed with DNMC as there are many many lights... good luck, nice photo otherwise, I would have straightened the horizon line a little, but I like the composition and how the other people are in dark and the guy on stage is lit brighter than the rest of the pic |

single lightsource is not what comes to mind looking at this.
Still think this is a nice shot. |

I dont think this really qualifies as a single light source. Yes, it is for the man, but a major part of your picture is the remainder of the theater, which would not be visible if it were not for all the other lights. I'm guessing you'll catch alot of heck for this.
Other than that, its an ok photo. |

Is a really good picture...But the name of the challenge is SINGLE light source.... |

It looks like you have multiple light sources here, not a single one. |

That's really not a single light source. But I'm sure you've heard that before and you'll probably hear it again.
Good composition nevertheless. |

I like the idea of taking pictures of the actual lights themselves. I almost did something similiar... but believe you might have tried focusing more on the main guy. Good job though :) |

I really dont feel this works well for a challenge that says to use a single light source... I see lights all te ay around. While there may have been a single light on the man on the stage, the other lights do have a part in your exposure. |

I have to say, this picture made me cry. I'm heavily involved in performing as a singer and an actor and this shot just emotes what I feel when I stop onstage. It's beautiful! |
