Well, I floundered....I could not get out of work to shoot anything and the sky Saturday was alternate hazy and clear and very invariable...so I went with what I shot Monday on my way home from work and I meant to come back with the Nikon and tripod, but never made it. So it goes. This was shot from the top level of a parking garage located diagonally accross the street from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Shot with camera on a slight angle held on top of the concrete corner of the garage. Sort of hand held... more like hand stabilized and breath held. I left the white balance on cloudy which accounts for the warmth of the light. I am not happy with the dark areas but what are you going to do. Congrats to the winners!

Post: Power Retouche Dynamic Range compressor. Lay adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation. Cloned and healed hot pixels from the long exposure as well as few errant lights and part of a tree....there's a garden on top of the smaller of the two performing venues on the main floor. Lots of hot pixels...oy! Selection mask the building and used NeatImage on the sky. Sharpen. Resize. Sharpen. Save for web.

Hi from the Critique Club.

Wow, "kinda" hand held at 3.25 seconds. Pretty sharp i'd say considering.

Your pic is a wonderful abstract with a good balance between light and dark as well as some nice angular elements which contrast well with the curves.

I tend to agree with some of the commentators that either a darker sky or a bluer twilight sky would have been beneficial. but, as you said, sometimes conditions just dont work out as you hope. I really like the red and yellow colors and they provide a very nice balance.

As it relates to the challenge, i think it scored well, considering some of the other pictures which were entered. I believe the majority of DPC voters favor real vs. abstract when it comes to voting.

Good finish and one that you might want to try again when you have a better sky and a tripod(although you did fine w/o the tripod this time) :)

Keep up the good work with your pictures. I enjoy them.

PM me with any questions or comments.

Mark

Repetition and the diagonal flow of the red lines works well here, the background framework adds depth. Good.

Nice abstract design. The oranges and pale yellows are wonderful, wish the sky had a bit more blue twilite to compliment.

Hello Robert. The Kimmel Center by famed architect Rafael Vinoly ;) This image truly creates dynamic characteristics due to the curves against the horizontals within the space ;) I think the sky color could have been saturated slightly so as not to appear too gray. Great colors and a wonderful abstract to add to your images ;) Good luck!

Wonderfully structural and great glowing colors. The sky is bland by comparison - wish is were all black, deep dark blue would be great but probably too unreal - Atleast I wish you had smoothed out the mottled tones in the gray.

Beautiful. One of my favorite of the challenge, but then again I am partial to the abtract nature that exists around us. The colors are great. The image is tac sharp and the exposure is spot on. Have to give it a 10 even though that puts me further behind in the race for the blue.
