Greetings from the Critique Club! :)
My first impressions of your striking image are that the "honourable mother" is quite angry or concerned...the scowling expression makes one wonder if she was happy to pose for the shot or if it is a candid capture. I also think the light halo around her face and shoulder is a bit too strong; almost like too much sharpening or processing to be real. The single light might have been a bit more effective across her face, or at least part of it, IMHO.
In technical challenges such as these, voters really are looking for "wow" and "pop" instead of emotive kinds of imagery, so that may have been a deciding factor in the placement of your image. 5.3 is still a decent score, however, so take all this with a grain of salt. ;)

| Very nice contour lighting and composition. The puffing shirt shoulder is a little distracting. My eye keeps going there, trying to fix it! |

| I think a bit more light across the face - at a better angle would have brought out friendlier shadows and details. This honourable mother looks almost angry here with the deep scowl lines between the eye brows |

What i like - the low key style, the composition
What bothers me - the face gives a bit of a troubled look due to probably the forehead lines. A more complacent and peaceful look helps the photo IMO |

| I really like the overall idea of the image and it has good potential but there's something about the post processing here...Looking at the photo on high contrast LCD I see a black blotch on her face, the transition from light to dark is too abrubt. I'll go back later and see how it looks on my good crt which I reguarly use. The fabric is a little distracting would've burnt that out too. |

| she looks ANGRY! as a mom whose kids climb on me and scream in my ear and whack me in the face with toys constantly im angry most of the time too so i relate to this pic. ;) nice |
