Challenge: Negative Space II (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A70
Location: Jodrell Bank, Cheshire, England
Date: Aug 17, 2003
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: Auto
Shutter: 1/800
Date Uploaded: Aug 17, 2003

First of all, having looked through the original Negative Space challenge, I must give kudos to Remie, who certainly inspired my shot.

This did involve quite a lot of editing - but all legal. The sky was blue with some clouds, so I used Hue/Saturation to brighten the blue sky to white. Then I increased contrast to flatten the sky to bright white. Using a second stage of Contrast/brightness to bring the sky up to a reasonable shade of grey. Finally I sepia toned it.

It's not the most faithful photo I've ever taken, but I do quite like it. If it gets >=5.000 I'll be very happy indeed.

I liked the "cowspace" photo in the last challenge, and this is a similar theme. I like this one better, since there is some depth and perspective to the landscape at the bottom which keeps the photo from seeming off-balanced.

There is a point where there is too much Negative space. I think this picture has reached that point. It needs less sky and more cows.

The details of the subject are a bit too small.

Love the cows in this picture and the trees add a nice touch.

Negative space should have a purpose. This is negative space for the sake of the challenge.

I sure love that sky. Neg space works to add a sense of important-to-the-cosmos feel to thigns.
