From the Critique Club
First, I think that duplicating a specific shot or technique is a valuable learning exercise and I would expect that by doing this shot, you have learned a good deal. You have executed this well, focus, exposure, post processing etc. are all spot-on.
As you can tell from the other comments, nothing about this is really very original and using this technique, especially with the US Flag, begs for comparison to one of the highest scoring photos on DPC.
Compared to John's image, yours seems like you trid to arrange and size them uniformly, rather than the more random nature of the drops in the "original". For this to work, the arrangement would need to be more precise and the drops of more uniform size. From my perspective, this lack of complete order and lack of disorder, more than anything is what detracts from your image.
If you are going to do something as cliche as this, to be really successful, you have to do it better than the original.

Ya know, even though this has been done, it only goes to prove that this site is subjective, and shallow. People are quick to judge, and slow to evaluate.
All the Ansel Adams want-a-be's, all the flower shots, all the pet shots have been done before as well, but you don't see people saying "Hey, thats been done before!"
Photographically speaking, this is a great shot.
Good imagination, time, and effort. Good comp, good color, ok light, nice movement. |

This was a great picture idea the first time around, but it has become kinde of a DPC cliche. I'd give it more if the general idea was used in a more original way. |

Great theme! Great symmetry!
Reminds of many flags over great men & great women in many cemetaries. Hand-Over-My-Heart Thanks for all who have paid the ultimate price for my freedom as well as the sacrifice of the families who think about these gallant souls EVERY DAY!!!!!!! |

reflections in water droplets is a little over done at the moment, I hope your score doesn't suffer because of it - All the same an 8 for a great shot (I try and mark each photo individually:-) |

One thing that I will never understand: why do Americans talk about freedom all the time? Don't get me wrong, I'm familiar with American way of life, I have American friends, I used to live in the USA(San Diego, for six months). What about the freedom of the others?
Ofcourse, the photo is brilliant. Just the attitude? |
