 Ahhhhh. Gotta love props you can eat once finished.

Not happy with the crop but our stove top isn't designed with DPC challenges in mind.

With the distance to subject I had to use f16 to get enough depth of field to cover the entire scene and that aperture required a 1.3sec exposure @ ISO400 to get the gas flame correctly exposed. The background is my sheet of black velvet draped over a piece of cardboard. To get the popcorn to stay still for 1.3secs I painted a wooden skewer black and then stuck it into the cardboard so it was facing directly at the lens. The piece of popcorn was then balanced on the end of the skewer which also hid it from the camera lens.

I first though about using flashes to light the scene but I wanted to minimise reflections on the saucepan so the only light is from the light built into the rangehood.

Even after all that messin' around I wasn't completely happy with the shot but there was no way I was gonna set it up again for a reshoot.

Technicaly I don't think its the best in the challenge but it is an exceptional shot for me and fitting for the challenge. I hope it does well for you.

Thanks... another shot that makes me hungry. Well done! Nice lighting, contrast, composition, and capture. The single kernel in the air makes this image "pop". :)
