I am at a conference in a rather obscure place on Crimean peninsula in Ukraine (there is only one link to the internet for the whole conference, and it is a 24k modem on which i am struggling to upload this photo :)). So, taking an appropriate photo for this challenge has been quite a challenge - no props, no light, no tripod, nothing. A landscape challenge would have ben SO MUCH easier - it is a really beautiful place. Anyhow, this is what I manage to come up with. Will probably lose in this round of League of Death challenge, oh well.
balanced a spoon (borrowed from a resturant :) on the edge of a chair ona balcony at night, used my own hand and lighted with a on-camera flash... The only trick at the post-processing is that I selected the hand and "grunged" it by myltiplying with an over-sharpened and desaturated version of itself. the rest is pretty straighforward - levels, curves, sharpening, some cloning, and such.

Hello from the Critique Club, my name is Jon Rowe and i will be looking at your photo today :)
This image is amazing, and i don't see how it didn't finish higher. it's a very well done, grungy feel, and i feel it really portrayed the image you were trying to, or what i feel you were trying to. the worn fingers, the perfectly exposed light, very nice.
i like how the apex of the spoon is right on the top third line, and the fire on the intersecting lines. i just love this image. if i had to nitpick the only thing i would say is to clone out the blow out point on the inside of the thumb, next to the lighter, but that's just personal preference. in my honest opinions, this should have scored higher, but it's still an amazing score for an amazing image.
I'll say! There's a lot of meaning here, and good photographic quality. I think showing the hand that holds the spoon would avoid viewers wondering if the apparent levitation was the main point.
good idea.
I like it.
the dirty hands are a nice touch.
But, it would have been a little more realistic or impactful had there been some smoke or something rising from the spoon.
