So this is my first self-portrait, and it's also the first time I've used studio strobes, which I just bought. Not sure how it will do, since I'm so inexperienced with both.

As shot, except for Curves, as well as selective curves around the eye, and cloning to get rid of some errant hairs. The background is a white paper roll, reflecting a spot with a blue filter attached to it that's pointed at the ceiling. The other light is a spot just in front of me. An SB-800 turned down to 1/128 controls them, and is pointed at the ceiling.

Congrats on a nice finish and your second highest score so far.

Camera Work/Technical: Great focus and really nice detail capture. The sweat beads, the zipper and the leather texture all jump out and grab the viewer's eye.

Lighting: Very well done, and I'd call it a successful first. I like the mood created by the lighting, but I'd like to see that right eye with a bit more detail.

Composition/Content: This is a very strong composition that benefits from the strong expression here.

My Opinion: Great work, and a fine score. I think with some detail in that eye, you'd have easily been at a 7.

The first impression that comes across is one of serious intent. The lighting works very well, though I'd have liked just a touch more on the left to see just a bit of the other eye. The framing and angle of your head works perfectly, and I like the way the V in the jacket echos the V that's formed on your forehead. I also like the subtle gradation on the background color, which adds depth. Very well done!

This was a wonderful portrait and I truly thought it would be ranked much higher than it was. I love the lighting and shadows!

Everything works together really well in this shot - the lighting, attire, gaze and background together give an almost sinister (for lack of a better word) effect. The lighting and focus on the front eye really force the viewer to connect with the subject. Excellent!

Intersting. I like the look, but the blue cast on the left side of the face is distracting. Very sharp, and moody.

I like the lighting except for the blue reflected on your face. (which was probably intentional) :o)

I like the light, the pose and just about everything except your persperation. It is really noticeable because its created a group of highlights on your forehead. Nit picky really, but I noticed. Still, Great work.

Nice lighting and background. This looks like a studio shot. Kind of unimaginative, though.

Sharp as a bloody tack. Great lighting. I have got to get my lens figured out for SP, it is always a hair soft. At any rate, an ace shot.
