This was a shot taken last night (8-15) of a fire that started on the east benches in Utah County. I guess several homes were consumed, and more of the area was evacuated when I was up there. Typical fire that the dry summer brings.

Cropped, resized, and sharpened.

I was just under 150K after resizing it. I wish I could've submitted one maximum width. If anyone wants the original, e-mail me about it.

The purple stuff... that would be fire. Very wide range of temperatures in that fire up there, and the colors they created were just amazing.

Edit-
Also, I wasn't really that close the fire. I was maybe a 1/4 mile away at closest, and upwind of a relatively small fire. There are a few trees you can pick out for some size comparison. One of the easier ones is next to that hot spot just right of the pole at the very bottom.

very good shot.. nice use of the power lines in the foreground to create depth. Must have been scary to be that close!!!

Whats the purple stuff?

My lord! Where were you to take this photo? The focus was on the power lines. How great it would have been to have focused on the fire.

Wow -- that's dramatic! I'll be curious to read the details on this one. I'm assuming you made it out alive since you posted the picture :) I do wish you would have posted at the full 640 pixels wide here.

i'd love it if this shot were quite a bit bigger. Not sure what resolution you shoot in, but I shoot a high resolution, then crop then reduce the longest side to 640 so you get the same crop but the photo is larger.

oh my gosh.....this is a beautiful shot....but you were a little too close for comfort I am sure!
