Nice subject -- or subjects, rather. The subtle vibrancy of the colours do take the cake for this particular shot. The choice of BG's not really that great, but works nonetheless,

The shallow DOF was very detrimental as I bet a lot of people took of points for it. It was very distracting and compositionally unhelpful. A deeper DOF would've worked better.
The shadows under the banana don't help as well. A diffuser in front of the light, or maybe a repositioning, would've lessened (or eliminated) said shadows.

Greeting from the critque club,
This is a very nice still life. I like the background color that matches the strawberries, and then the yellow of the bananas is there to contrast. It is a very visually interesting use of color. I like the overall 'shape' of the composition as a triangle. I think for this arrangement of fruit, a square crop with a symetrical composition was a very fitting choice.
A few things that I would suggest to improve it. I think the shadows cast in front of the banas are very distracting. The lighting in general is nice and even and the background is well lit, but the shadows should have been avoided by repositioning the lights.
I think it is just a little too closely cropped. I like the center, symetrical composition but I would like a little more breathing room around the edges. It feels a little cramped.
Although you list your aperature as F9, both ends of the bananas are out of focus. I think a little more DOF would have been better. It would be nice to have the whole thing sharp. Or, is you want shallow DOF, make it more deliberate in a way to add to the impact of the image. Here, I think the OOF parts detract.
Overall, I think this is a very nice image and meets the challenge wonderfully. I did not vote in this challenge, but I would have given this a 6.

This looks like a smoothie waiting to happen... mmmm... This is a nice composition.
Just a little bit of glare on the strawberries, but nothing major. My concern is with the focus. It's sharpest in the center, but my eye is drawn to the ends of the bananas, which are out of focus. |

First Impression: nice, with a good BG.
Composition: Not sure about it. It's a bit busy for me. I don't know where I'm supposed to look. There isn't a clear focal point for the viewer.
Subject: meets the challenge
Technical: Lighting is good. Colors are very naturals, I like them. The BG is very nice. I'm not sure about the focus.
Improvement: Maybe another configuration of the fruits (you could try with not so many strawberries to be not so busy...). The focus could be shallower (maybe with one strawberry in focus an the rest OOF) or bigger (with everything in focus).
Summary: Nice shot of food.

Technicals:
Overall, I like the lighting especially the specular highlights on the strawberries. That makes the strawberries look so yummy. I'm not so keen on the shadows the bananas create but really that's not too distracting. The color is also good.
Subject/composition:
Good choice in subject. It meets the challenge. However, something feels awkward about the arrangment. It just looks unnaturally balanced to me.
Suggestions for Improvement:
To make the arrangement more natural looking I suggest having at least one of the strawberries on the ground. Also, I'm not sure about the DOF you used here. At least I'd like to have seen the first row of strawberries as sharp as the top row. That's about it. Good luck on your next challenge and congrats on that top placing in the photographer improvements stat! |

| The background color works well with the strawberries. An improvement would be more "perfect" bananas that are pure yellow (if you could find them!). |
