In trying to think of an idea to shoot for still life, I was inspired by a Michael Godard piece. The painting that inspired me is titled "Scotch and Black Jack". While I really like the original work, there were a few small details I wanted to change. For one, I thought that the cards would look better as hearts than as spades. I also decided that blue chips would look better against the green felt than black would.
However, rest assured, I did use real scotch. :D Glenlivet, to be precise. And no, not a drop of it went to waste. ;) I didn't have any cocktail napkins handy, so my resourceful assistant came up with a great idea. We took a paper towel, folded it over and cut it to the correct size (that of a napkin). Then she used a fine-tip marker to give it a black border. Not bad, eh?
Post-processing included adjustment layers for Brightness/Contrast, Color Balance, Hue/Saturation, and Levels. Cropped slightly, passed through Noise Ninja, and used Bicubic Sharper when resizing. |

This would be very successful if lit from the front or from above. Good composition and subject. |
