Poor thing, I hope they/you got it back in the water - it doesn't look so much like an old and dieing animal. My own immediate reaction would have been to get yourself down to his/her level to shoot: from this point fo view, I think this shot becomes more about people's reaction to a beached animal than about the animal itself. It's a good photo, the omission of people's faces adds a strong element, and exposure control is good. |

This shot tells a story, but is not an environmental portrait IMO. |

Photograph a portrait that says something about the subject within the framework of their own environment. |
