 I wanted to do a B&W still life for awhile, so this was a good one for me. Tried to get maximum contrast using levels and curves, and wanted to give it a 'fine art fast B&W film grain' type effect, and I think it works. I think the film grain will get voted down because the trolls will assume it's digital noise and therefor not wanted!

PP in Photoshop CS:

Converted to greyscale
Adjust levels to improve contrast
Used curves to further improve contrast without clipping the shadows and highlights
Add noise: 2.75% to whole image.
Add border, re-size, and optimise file size for submission.

Meest challenge (blush). Bit more of a picture of a thing than a still life, and more of a thematic arrangement than a visual one. Better than mine though...

Lovely! 'Tho I'd like to see the starfish in whole without it's bottom left end cropped off, the contrast looks good here coupled with the texture on the starfish.
