Greetings from CTP2
Very nice portrait. This seems to be shot at a holy place so it fits the challenge as far as I'm concern. Even if it wasn't it depicts a holy place pretty well.
As for the image itself, it's pretty good. I like the composition particularly how her arms/shoulders run off both sides of the frame leaving no gaps. The cello cut off really doesn't bother me. I think you got enough of it to tell the viewer what instrument she is playing.
Regarding improvements, I probably would have liked to see her a bit more in focus since the cello is much sharper. Looking at your settings I can see where that may have been difficult to control. I know I always hate bumping up the ISO beyond 100 but maybe you should have here to geta smaller aperture setting? Also, I think having a bit more light on her face would have helped. Maybe some fill flash or a small reflector.
Overall, I like the image. In terms of the challenge theme you hit it square on, IMO. I also like how you shot something different. I tried to do the same especially since I knew I wouldn't be able to compete with those entering stunning interiors of older style churches. Since scalvert made the top ten shooting something similar I think you were on the right track. Good luck in your next challenge.
Edited for spelling.

Holy place? Maybe a stretch as it is more about her and the cello, than the church, but it is a terrific candid image. But maybe any place that she plays is considered holy to her or even a listener, so an "out of the box" definition might be in order. I like that it gives a scenario and we know where she is and what she's doing without a word being used to explain it. I agree about the frame - none, or possibly a black one I think would have served you better. I like the hair in her face and her concentrated expression. |

Hi Gunnar!
As a portrait, I like this quite a bit. The concentration on the model's face is lovely. A bit more sharpness would be nice, and a crop that doesn't cut off the end of the cello at the right. I am also not crazy about the color of the border. I appreciate and agree with the impulse rein the photo in with a frame, but I think the mahoghany color pulled from the cello was the wrong choice since it's too warm of a tone against a cold gray. I slightly darker gray would have done the job and remained unobtrusive, I think. That said, I didn't really feel like this totally met the challenge. The girl is obviously the main character, while the cross in the background isn't even in focus. The "Holy Place" is too much of a supporting player when it should have the lead role. |

from ctp2:
I really liked this shot. It's a beautiful candid - well lit, well composed. Her face could have maybe been a tad sharper. I like the inclusion of the cross in the background, so that you can tell she is playing in church. Personally, I think this should have scored higher, but who knows... |

From the CTP MkII
First Impression: WOW. Love this one. Really good IMO
Composition: Great. She on thirds, the neck of the cello making a diagonal, the free space on top left...
Subject: Nice. Maybe some people voted you down because they expected a church, but this shot is very subtle and acurate for the challenge. She is very nice.
Technical: Colors are great, focus is tack sharp on her, the lighty blurred BG works very well.
Improvement: to improve your score you must change the border...LOL I supose many of the commenters would say that. I would have preffered a thiner and black one, but it's OK like is.
Summary: Wonderful. Sorry it didn't scored better, because it deserved more IMO.

This is a gorgeous shot and very appropriate for the challenge. I don't like the border, though, especially since the line in the brick isn't parallel. A non-border would serve this better. Gorgeous young lady, too. |

Awesome candid. There are a lot of shots that have great DOF and this is yet another example to me of a great choice. I love the detail in her hair and concentration is amazing. My only suggestion is to keep the border simple, white perhaps would be less distracting, keeping the viewers eyes where they belong, on this lovely photo. Well done. |

Interetsing take on the challenge theme as it specified holy "places". I wish it were in better focus and I really wish you hadn't cut off the end of the instrument. |
