 Outtake from Photojournalism Challenge. Couldn't enter this version because of the added element "ray of light" (i.e., hope). However, this was the way I envisioned the shot originally. There was a window in that particular location - I just couldn't get the sun to cooperate that day, so I added it based on the technique Rikki used in his Best of 2002 Challenge entry.

This is my favorite of the two versions. The added ray of light really makes this an even stronger image. This image conveys so much emotion to me, from pride to concern with the current state of our country. Fantastic work Jimmy.

It is a shame you couldn't do this for the challenge. That ray of light really adds a lot. Like jaxed said, it does change the mood to a more hopeful feeling.

Even better than your challenge entry. This portrays hope rather than death. Amazing how a little ray of light can change the mood of this photo. I think you should also make this available as a print, I'd buy one.
