1st Cav Division Operation Iraqi Freedom II Memorial.

The names of two Soldiers killed in my Brigade on 11 October 2004. There are 168 names on this wall that are close to my heart, for the simple reason that I was almost 169. I feel to honor them, because I’m here still, and a photographer. I submit this picture for them, not for placement, just so people in this world would see their names and say a prayer for the families, for the fallen, and for those in harms way.

“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.” – George Orwell.

Robert - I gave this picture an 8 - it's woefully underrated. Not only is the picture itself very good (technically sharp, I like the angle of the names and the countering angle of the reflection) but it definitely fits the challenge. Thanks for sharing it and your story.

The names should almost be a no no, but of course they have to be there...
The difuse reflection gives depth to the surface.
I can't help wondering if a limited depth of field on the names (focussed on the letters around the middle, but ever so slightly blurred on the nearer and farther ones) would add to the mood. I guess it would throw the reflection so far into formlessness as to lose the effect there. Good idea for a fresh angle on the challenge.

I wish there were more of interest in this photo. A person's hand reaching out towards one of the names, an interesting reflection in the stone, something to give it more feeling.

the reflection is distracting. more contrast between the words and the stone would be great. nice take on this challenge though.

Is this a memorial for the war in Iraq?

This is tough to judge simply because of the subject matter.

This is more a place of reflection and honor rather than a holy place.

Great try though.
