I can't connect this to desolation enough really. I can project anything I like onto the image, but it's down to my imagination more than the image that it will mean desolation. Composition may have been improved with an off-centre alignment of the aperture - possibly higher in the frame.

the title of the picture is not good for me..
maybe something related to prison and prisoner who is alone in that closed room where is only one squre hole... that must be true loenlyness and feeling of desolation

Hmm...I'm not crazy about this shot....just because I like to see more of what was in the picture. Where were you at? It reminded me of those old prison cells where the only light coming in was from a small cut in the wall.

Simple, but it really says desolation to me. I like it.

I didn't get the feeling of desolation. I saw it more as the "light at the end of the tunnel", or "my ray of hope".
