 I just went up to my local "drug" superstore near closing time. They'd apparently had quite successful battery sales earlier in the day, or else were understocked.

This is exactly as I found it; I just took about four shots with slightly different angles and framing and then hurried off to do my shopping before they closed.

One of my shots of clear-cut logging in Oregon would have been my preferred entry but they were shot a day too early to qualify.

Fluorescent lighting, minor cropping. Tone curves to tweak color and contrast, couple of passes with USM.

Now that's desolation - especially if your kid's got a new toy which requires eight batteries! I wonder if the composition would be improved if the batteries were on the next shelf down? Square-on view is confounded by the distortion on the shelves, so perhaps a 3/4 view would have been more effective showing more empty shelf space. Nice take on challenge. [6]

This is a pretty creative take on the challenge. I like your idea, but I think I would have prefered the subject being somewhere closer to the middle/off center of the photo, opposed to the upper right corner. I actually almost missed it. Nice clarity and focus.
