 Thought this might work for a story on the city, an in-flight magazine, etc.

I was traveling for business so I only had my Nikon Coolpix 5400 rather than my full Canon dSLR outfit. I still enjoy trying to get the shot with limited resources. Makes me appreciate when I have more options.

this is not photojournalism. where are the people, where is the emotion? what is happening now that is unusual or different from any other day?

That airplane is just too minimal to make the impact you are implying in the title. IMO, the same shot minus the airplane is more suitable for a postcard than it is for a news story.
