Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Negative Image (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Location: Grandmother's house - San Bernardino, CA
Date: Apr 22, 2006
Aperture: f/11
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1.3 Seconds
Galleries: Abstract, Emotive
Date Uploaded: Apr 24, 2006

This was shot in the back room of my grandmother's house on the arm of her couch. Playing around with inverse colors of several different images, I noticed that human flesh ends up a cold blue tone. That inspired me to shoot this image. The orange bloom is actually a light blue artificial flower and the trail of "blood" is teal fabric paint. I overexposed the shot to guarantee that I had a white backdrop to invert into pure black. Other than obviously inverting the colors, I also used an adjustment layer to help the colors "pop" a bit more. The image is slightly macabre, but I figured it would fit right in for a "negative image". ;)

Dude! This is fantastic! I was wondering what to do for Negative myself.

It adds a certain fantasy aspect to the picture because there seems to be a magical light within the hand or something.

The hand looks like it has some kind of skin disease but most annoying is the red strip to the right.

I like the hand and the flower as a negative image. I don't like the placement of the stem.

I love the flower. The hand doesn't add anything for me, and the red is distracting. 6

Cool colours you have created here as a result of inverting it, kinda sinester looking

Wow, awesome colors. What's that little red tail thing in the corner?

That flower is flaming! I love the tones of the orange, it's like a mini fire. The color combo with the hand is good but the texture on the hand I'm not so sure about. The red tendril thingie looks out of place too. I think the flower has enough character to have stood out on its own without anything else in the shot.

flower on its own would have more appeal as an image in my opinion.

Good color casting. I dislike that hand there. But good picture at all.

The red on the right is a bit distracting and takes the eyes away from the flower.
