Thanks for the comments. It's an Eastern Redbud (at least according to the sign by the tree), and the buds were actually coming off the main part of the trunk - this was the largest cluster, much lower than where the tree started branching and had most of its flowers and leaves.
I agree that the highlights on the flowers are a problem - hadn't thought about it in terms of overall overexposure but that definitely makes sense looking at it now. I also see the focus issues. I'll have to look back through some of the other pictures I took of it to see if they work better in those areas. |

Nice texture and color, but no overall cohesion. |

Nice colour flower and nice soft background. I think the buds are a bit soft on focus and the light on one side is a bit harsh. |

Cercis or Judas Tree, I presume. A lovely sign of spring. The colloquial name implies an association with new life at Easter. |

A nice shot, unfortunately there seems to be too much light on the pink buds which causes a loss of detail. I like the diagonal lines of the tree trunk and the out of focus background. |

This is pretty soft. Lighting is very harsh...especially bottom right. |

Subject is overexposed. Recomend shooting quicker or a smaller apature. Since this was advanced editing you could have shot so that none of the subject was over exposued and used a slight dodge to brighten up the other side of the branch. |

I'm a bit neutral on this one. It's nice but it doesn't blow my socks off, so to speak. |
