I really like this. Gave it a 7 in the challenge. Terrific contrast and the varying "layers" are super!!

I didn't vote on the challenge, so this is the first time I've seen this shot. I'd have given it a high mark. To me, it's everything a candid should be -- good light, good tones, good sharpness. You've captured one moment perfectly. I like the juxtaposition of the girl who is reading her paper and the women who are involved in their own conversation.

the women in the background take away from a great story and a 9 to a 6

When you just look at the arm and hands in this shot you'd think it is some kind of ballet. :) Great balance between light and dark here.

Very 70's, but I think you need a tighter crop. The women in the background are uninteresting and don't add to the photo. A shallower DOF migh also help.

This one intrigues me and I think its the darks and the lights that keep me coming back. Its just an ordinary moment but the subject owns this moment and this image (make sense?) You see the conversation going on behind her and you're tempted, but its more important to know what she's reading. The hands are very graceful, in opposition to the other women. Anyway, 9

I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.

For me the only thing that really makes this photo is the tones. Good lighting and good tones. I'm afraid that other than that, to me it is just some people sitting somewhere for lunch or coffee. Nothing really obscure, nothing really of interest for me here I'm afraid. It's just ok, but it really has no kick for me. It's a 3 photo for me in this challenge.

Like the high contrast, but I think you've los a little control here slightly - those blown highlights on the arms and hands, and the extent of the shadow areas would have repaid a touch more control of processing I think.

Nice moment in time. The contrast between tables is intriguing.

I find myself more interested in the women in the backgroud then the woman reading the paper.
