This works well both ways up, and shows refraction nicely. I don't see just how you got the brighness in the glass, but perhaps the flash may have been reflected by something.

Good job on making everyday objects interesting! With the picture being upside-down it made me think "what the heck is this". |

This would be a lot crisper and much more appealing had the background been all white and set away from the subject a good distance so as not to create the shadows. |
