 Challenge entry no. 98

The first of these experiments came with my Blue entry. So for this challenge, I decided to add another layer that would in essence act as a double refractor.

The first glass is a lager glass. The flared shape of the glass in addition to the slenderness of it created slim lines around it's form. The second is your typical wine glass. By adding varied amounts of water in each glass, I essentially diversified the amount and complexity of the refractions. One glass reflected the other. In other words, they became two mirrors in a way. One reflecting the refractions of the other.

Editing was quick. Shot in RAW and converted via RSE. Ran through NI. Cropped. Ran through NI with sharpen filter. Stroke at 10 pixels. Slight USM and save for web. Oh how I wish I could have used advanced editing on this one. So many dust specks and imperfections in the glass.

Let's see how the voters feel and if they agree to my attempt at dual refractions. I hope the score for this image would be good enough to help Team 20D.

Woohoo! Yay! Team 20D might just sneak by Team Nikon on the WPL.

When I shot this image, I immediately thought that lines create the most impact in showing refractions through different lights and surfaces. However, other items as well create a nice visual impact such as shapes and color. So for this shot, I decided to combine all three. The lines created the complex intricacies in the image and the color added to the punch. The sphere further delineates the effects of refraction even if it simply passes through a simple glass. I'm glad I made the combination to work out ;)

Thanks for the great comments everyone. It was a blast shooting for this challenge. Great job everyone ;)

You're the only person that is able to post something so abstract and grab a blue. Reminiscent of your "blue" entry, where i had no clue what the heck i was looking at, and it was still great.

ABSOLUTELY loved this when I first saw it, and gave it one of it many 10's..... So, so close to the ellusive 8, but still a magic score of 7.907..... You richly deserve this "BLUE" ribbon dear friend.....ENJOY. I now have another one of Rikki's magic images as a favorite.....

Absolutely wonderful, clear and well balanced, nice choice of materials in background, lovely colour, very artistic, hot vs cool, contrast of shapes, lines crossing and involved - if you are not in advertising, apply for a job there!

I cannot get over how crisp this image is (I'll look after the challenge to see what you did and what hardware you used)

You worked all the elements so well -- shots like this could be busy but you've managed all the parts into a contemorary abstract -- strong colors and line work well. One of my favorites this challenge
