Beautifully simplistic....love the color and form of the paperclip and droplet. Great studio type shot. |

Wonderful shot Rikki - I like this better than your challenge. Like the shape of the drop and the clip. Lighting is great too. I like the different variations of blue. My favorite of these 4. |

I like this. I also liked the challenge entry. The blue is a nice touch. I feel the color blue goes better with the water droplet than the red.
Also...one day I will learn to "alter" my surroundings like you did when you added glycerin to the water! |

I actually happen to like this one even more than the one you entered for the challenge...I think the reason being the black shadow that is very appealing and...I would say feminine! To me its like feeling the first drop of water, the seed!
Hats off to you for sparking my imagination :-) |

Without a doubt this is my favourite of the four. The blue background is very well done. It's amazing how you created an interesting photo out of a basic item! Well done Rikki! |

LIke the colors you finished with, the paper clip now resembles one of those wine holders from the seventies! Overall nicely done, but honestly does not hold my interest for long, regrets.

Very cool image Rikki. As with Louis' comment, I think it could benefit from the coil and drop being a little sharper. |

Was this an outtake to the water challenge? I think this one would have done better than your actual entry. |

In response to your request for comment: This is just a really lovely picture, with what I think is perfect composition, interest, highlight and colour. The way the coil disappears near the upper left, and the blue background bulges out at that point and below, makes for very high tension that is just extremely pleasant to look at. The same goes for the formal shape of the drop against what could almost be described as an extremely expanded view of a drop behind and below it. The colour is moody and immediately impacting, and really complements the high tension of the image so very well. There's a straight line of highlight at right that ultimately bleeds into the background that is pretty much perfect. The border works to cut off the drama at the right point, before we're forced to look at DP Challenge grey. :) There is an ever-so-slight hint of something red on the extreme right of the drop and along the coil that adds subtle interest. Maybe just a bit more would have been even more interesting.
I would only indicate that my preference would be for razor-sharp focus on the coil and drop, which on close examination are a tad soft. The coil isn't perfect; if you had to bend it, you did a fantastic job, but such a formal setup might benefit from a machined piece of wire. The swoop of the coil is very pleasing, though. In essence, I can't find anything I don't enjoy about this image. Really very gorgeous.
