I shot this in front of my Boss's house. It’s a Cactus Bloom. This doesn’t happen very often and usually at night and they are wilted by morning. Not this one! I hand held my camera in the wind to get this shot...

Post Processing: Curves, Levels, Hue & Saturation, Dodge & Burn, Cloned out small black spots on the flower, USM and Save for the Web.

A very nice close-up of the inner beauty of a flower. The center portion of the flower is most interesting and the level of finely focused detail is wonderful!!! I really think you could have gotten away with cropping this one closer to the main focus which is the center portion of this flower. It looks like an abstract vortex that pulls us into the swirl of the green vortex, the yellow tipped portions and that unique star/spider shape that dominates the center of the flower.

This is very unique and lovely subject. As is true for many flowers there is a kind of mathematical elegance to the organization of the elements, but it's a highly unusual one. I love the pale, soft treatment given the subject and the generally soft contrast, but I kind of wish I could see a little more of the lovely structure of the flower.
