As soon as smyk and I saw this shot on the LCD, we retired the photoshoot knowing that the odds of getting something close to this are practically zero. It's exactly what I was going for: a ghost-like creature attacking the cute little penguin.

Lots of editing here, to get rid of all the dust, extra ice below the water, and flash spots.

The setup was basically 3 flashes pointing at one place on the white cardboard behind the pool of water (in a pan) + snow (the last of it in montreal). A blue paper was necessary on the "floor" of the pan to get the blue water effect. A polarizer was used to enhance relfections.

The flashes were actually set to 1/4 of their max output so that the discharge time was short enough stop water motion (which is really fast)

We threw a piece of glass (because it's transparent) into the water and snapped away repeatedly.

Damn, I remember when we took this shot....good times. What were the odds of getting that water to be in shape of that "man"...

You have quite a creative imagination.
04/02/2006 05:26:54 PM
how the hell did you do that?

That totally looks like a water monster about to envelop the critter, I can even see the critter's reflection in the monster's form. Amazing.

Have you noticed that the drops look like a man figure standing out of the water? Great luck there!

How you got the splash to look like a giant monster, I'll never fathom. But incredible luck! This is good, best of luck to ya'! 8

Great shot. I am curious to know how you did that. (10)

In my opinion, this would've MUCH more powerful without the penguin. The drops already appear to be in a human shape, arms stretched out in angst, so to me, the penguin detracts from it tremendously.
Good capture on the water, tho.
:)

Oh! I wanna know how you got Bubble Man in there! Along with the cute little red-footed critter. Hope it's legal 'cause it's a GOOD one.

I guess I'm supposed to look at the penguin, but I can't take my eyes off of the water-dude. Is that really just water splash or a figurine?

Very Cool!

I think the image from the water drop is amazing and a one of a time capture if it formed that way naturally, but I am concerned a little bit about the glass penquin. It looks placed there in PS and not realistic to the shot. Very creative though!

dude that figure in you splash is insane... but i dont think the little guy really works.
