This was shot in my Pontiac Grand Prix, while in neutral and revving the engine. Used my tripod to prop up the camera while I pressed the accelerator. I really wanted to try a photo that would dramatically show the 2 second exposure.

I tried to start at 4000 RPM and go up from there, but the engine didn't react nicely to the high RPMs, so I went to more of a cruising engine speed.

The other nice part of this shot was it confirmed that my Canon 50mm f/1.8 II is okay after dropping it about 15" onto a concrete floor. Whew!

Post Challenge: Alright, I'm very pleased with a 20th place finish. This isn't the easiest composition to get. I didn't want anything else from the dash to come into this photo, so I had to be careful with other readings not getting into the frame. Also, if you've ever tried this, you know that it is very difficult to get a stright on view with the steering wheel in the way not to mention your body. This was as straight a view I could get.

Anyway, thanks for all the great comments and encouragement. I'm very pleased with how this turned out.

Greetings from the Critique Club...

Hi woutje :)

This is an excellent photo and I believe the voters agreed. Graphicfunk's post challenge comment sums up why this photo is appealing. It has simple visual appeal and it does meet the challenge very well. It's clean and simple. Photos that show a great execution of a technique (like long exposures) generally do well. I can't offer you any suggestions for improvement on this because I don't think there are any. Excellent work :)

may not scream photography/style, but does scream perfection in what you were attempting. Quite frankly, could not be improved upon.

Nicely done, I even like the thin border you used and I don't usually care for borders much, but this one seems to enhance the photo well. Good luck
