This was my first attempt to make a nighttime picture. I only recently bought a tripod. Out of the 20 pictures I took this night, this is the only one that came out alright. As I couldn't get auto-focus on the target I was using manual focus, it was very windy and with a shuttertime of 13 seconds it was hard trying to keep the camera from moving. Many of my pictures were ruined by this strong wind.

Brookied: Some noise was introduced by PS when I "saved for web". The original image doesn't have this. Thanks for the comments so far, keep 'em coming.

Try to fill the foreground with a little bit of fill flash (or wait for moonlight). Just keep it in manual + flash with negative flash exposure compensation of 1 to 2 stops and leave all other settings untouched.

Take a hook with you to hang some weight (like a camera bag) on your tripod cental pillar. That would help to avoid wind motion.

I think that that is more the result of the f/4.5 aperture with close subject focus.

i like the shot but would run it through neat image for a pass to remove a little noise. there is a little camera shake on the twin towers inthe backround so would try again on a less windy night and see what results you get then. Nice photo overall though

Admirable considering the conditions you described. I was going to attempt some night shots myself tonight with my new tripod but i chickened out because of the wind.
