 Very co-operative insect. I took a dozen pictures of this fellow over about 15 minutes. He just stood there preening away. (Plant is 'Silver Mound' for an idea of size)

Used diopters +4, +2 and +1 stacked to get as close as possible using full optical zoom in macro focus mode.

Post processing: Crop, levels 22-46-246, resize to 640 x 480, save for web at 89%, run through NeatImage

I want to thank everyone for their comments. I agree that the focus is a little soft. This is probably due to the use of the diopters. Without them though I wouldn't have been able to get close enough. As it was, I had to crop this image out of a larger image.

asitv, the lighting is just the evening sun, nothing special. The focus point was set right on the bug.

Great composition, shame about the glare on your insect. Very nice background... perhaps not enough contrast in colour between the top left and the subject. Nice use of dof. 8
