Looking back on carefree days.

Edit: 5/17/06
Thanks to Louis S. I saw some flaws that needed adjusting. Levels, curves, and Adjustment to Midtones have become my friends lately:-) This final image is as it should have been rather than the "faded denim wash" look of the old one. Things appear more sharper, bolder, and crisper. END EDIT

Now I know I have been to your portfolio before but for some reason have overlooked this. I guess I am usuualy drawn to our flower unbrella edit shot. This shot rocks! I have no clue what your original edit looked like but whatver you did works great. The softness of the wheel in the distance coupled with the detailed contrast of the foreground offers such a great combination. Really excellent postprocessing and a great eye for the initial capture. One last little possible worthy tweak might be to clone out the two pieces on top of the bush that are creeping up into the wheel above the girls head. But that is just a small minor issue in an excellent picture. Very nice work and worthy of printing.

In response to your request for comment: Compositionally, and from the point of view of the subject, this is a beautiful photo. It's very sweet, and hints at some kind of story, with the obvious feelings evoked by the kids, plus the almost dreamy image of the ferris wheel in the background. I like the natural frame of the tree branches, and the interesting shape they cut out of the sky. For this picture, it's my opinion that the more or less centred subject works very well, with the heavy weighting toward the bottom of the picture balancing out the dreamy, "wispy" feel at the top.

I think the picture is not well exposed. The kids are too dark; it could be said that this enhances the amorphous dreamy quality of the whole thing, but for me, they're a bit lost in the shadows. Your work with shadows/highlights or similar seems to have resulted in noticeable haloing in the leaves. This might not be a bad thing, though, because again, it enhances the general feeling of reverie or dreaminess in the photo, but for those people who use PS on a regular basis, it may definitely stand out as a product of post-processing, more than as an intended part of the image. If the subject were a bit more defined and lit, and if the haloing didn't take my attention away from the other good qualities of this image, this would be truly outstanding, in my opinion. Really quite lovely.

Very emotive shot. Very nicely composed, I really like how you've used the tree branches for some natural framing. Very interesting treatment of the photo. Nice job :-)
