Figure of Death with red background lighting and PDA illuminating his face with a very dim key light. Scene from the ancient Arabian folktale that has been written and rewritten by many authors, not the least of which was W. S. Maugham, in 1933.
Cropped, levels and curves adjusted. Selective burn, dodge, contrast, brightness, blurring, sharpening. Cloned over one tiny white spot on the cloak.

Ah, even the Grim Reaper is keeping up with the latest technology, I see. The red backdrop is brilliant.

Don't know the book, but I do know the author. I like your background. It looks very evil. As a photo, I found it interesting. It was composed well, and the lighting was really good the way you highlighted the scythe. 8
