To me, this was a challenge in a challenge of itself. The items were strange and to pair them together, even more strange. But I think that was the jist of this challenge, which was to use ONLY two of the items listed and see if you can make them still "work" together in the shot without added props, people, or animals. So my intention was to make the challenge entry be just that - which is to see if this can be done and still be appealing and not so boring. To me, I feel I have accomplished this.

I had stated in the forums that I changed my mind and now had a model and my entry would be humorous. I did this to throw off those reading and the voters, so those looking for just two items chosen in the photo wouldn't think this one is mine. I thought it would be interesting to watch how photos like I have entered would be voted on if they are not sure whose it is. I thought I may have given too much information and people would then know this was my photo when seeing only two of the items. So I wanted to deter that way of thinking by stating what I did about models and humor :) BUT, no, I still think this was a less is more challenge. ONLY the two items should be used in the photo.

***********

I just so happened to have all of the listed items in my home other than the bicycle. The jello cups of all colors were in my fridge and the feather was something my son collected from the local duck pond months ago. It was taped to my fridge by him. So I just grabbed a green jello cup and the feather, and my shot was ready to do. I thought it was elegant to put them together in this fashion and off center them in the shot for this challenge. A bit artsy fartsy for my taste, but usually the taste most DPC'ers enjoy. We shall see.

Truly a wonderful idea. You picked two and did a fantabulous job. I have looked a few times, and the only thing I feel unsure about is the colour of the background. But as I say, very unsure and can not come up with a better idea for a background-colour. Hope you end right up there at the top, picture deserves that.

Nice composition and color, but it feels like the focus is off a bit.

I like the idea but it looks a little out of focus to me.

This might be even more appealing on a dark background. Good idea!

I like a lot in this picture, composition, simplicity, the ink well is brilliant the border is a nice touch. The quill is a quill, not just a feather, you've cropped it just right, good focus and....Well Done!

I like the simplicity of this shot - you composed it nicely. The focus could be sharper, though. Also, I'm not loving the off-white background. I would adjust the white balance on the camera, or, actually, since I never seem to be able get the white balance correct in the camera, what I really would do is color correct it during post-processing, so that the background & the feather were true white.

Simple, and well done. The matching border adds a nice touch. My only concern is that the focus seems a bit off? I could be wrong...

Pretty, imaginative and simple. It looks like it could be a bit sharper though, especially on the jello mold. I hate borders generally but this one works for me.

I tried and failed to do something similar. good work. Maybe up the exposure and increase DOF a little would have improved the shot. But this is a really good meet of the challenge IMO
