These Japanese beetles are eating up my garden.

They lift their legs up as if to scare you. It's a defensive response.

I have made this comment many places, however I will let you know as well personally. I was just looking for more creativity with the IN THE GARDEN challenge. Macro's of bugs just did not score well for me.

I like this shot a lot! The tones are so inviting and so perfect. DOF doesn't bother me at all, in fact I like it as it is for the blurriness adds a sense of mystery to it, IMO. 9 from me.

Maybe if you used deeper DOF to see whole bugs focused, this way only 7 from me!

I gave it a 6... nice picture but the dof is a bit shallow and I think the glare detracts from it. The composition could also be improved. I do think it's better than average though... almost every single picture submitted here (even the amazing ones) get people voting all the way down to 1 so I wouldn't worry about it!

For anyone who reads this who gave me a 1, 2 or 3 vote -- can you explain why so I can learn.

I'd be appreciative.

Renee

I agree the DOF could be improved but my camera doesn't allow me to do so. I also think the composition is not great due to cutting of the leg of bug 2.

Another great macro shot in a challenge with so many great images to choose from. Perfect focus. Visually perfect.

We will probably see this one on the cover of "Insect Karma Sutra"

woooo! look at them legs a'sprawlin'! LOL
nice detail..they are so shiny aren't they! tough to get that down.. but you did quite well. A bit more DOF, imho, would make them look less like they are floating. Great job all around though!

Good capture!! Funny title too. I only wish you hadn't cropped the leg off the bug on top.
