 Trying to capture the softness and warmth of a rose by partial back lighting. I circled around it with a torch to show off the petals without any harsh shadows - a cheap way of trying to emulate a ring flash.

I chose this composition, as I wanted the warmth of the peach tones in the centre of the rose to be balanced by the cool shadowy large petals on the right. I felt the light in the bottom left corner balanced the dark shadowy large petal in the top right.

I chose 10sec to give me enough time to circle the torch slowly around the rose at about 45 degree angle then briefly lighting from above. I adjusted the aperture accordingly, choosing at least f/14 so all the petals were in focus. I used a tripod to avoid any camera shake and to keep my hands free for using the torch and a remote release to further minimise shake. I minimised this even further by using mirror lock-up.

It's hard to tell that the light is moving, but I believe you, although some might not. And it's just a gorgeous soft photo with lovely lighting and great detail. Nice job.

This is amazing but I don't understand why 40% of the people didn't meet the challenge - including this one. You're the only one I mentioned this to because the photo is just beautiful.
