Let me just say finding a thumb model aint so easy. Mine walked off the job after only 5 minutes and went back to his pc game. So alas, my big Spielberg photo production, turned solo.
The title comes from the fact that all the male members of my household are such utter remote control freaks and are only comfortable in front of the TV when they are holding that device..ie "creature comforts of home"
Well ...I think I just have one of them point and shoot cameras ...so I can't fill in all the fancy stuff I did, because there is none.
Obviously the camera is on macro....I thought I had the focus set on the 'power' and thumb distance but it seems to of 'slid' but regardless, I thought it was cool then to have the focus towards the gnarly DVD button (which I had no idea looked like that till now).
I had to set the camera to shoot on 10 second delay timer so I could hold my thumb in place and with the other hand adjust the lighting to flash in the right place. The lighting is one of those el-cheapo flashing 'disco balls' teenagers wear in the dark.
Its a table shot. The other lighting is the TV in distance and reflection from TV is on the rarely cleaned off coffee table .
This is my first entry in any challenge.
editing:- resize, sharpen, slight clarify.

Reading your comments made me nod and laugh. My son puts the remote in his pocket when he leaves the room so neither of the other two guys can grab it.
Congrats on your first challenge. 'Twas mine too, and I know how nervewracking it is!

Great idea and well done! Too bad about the broken button, it spoils the feeling of absolute power.
