Taken during a glamour posing workshop, where the model, who is very skilled at posing, was intentionally behaving unskillfully about it, for the purpose of teaching us student photographers how to direct posing. That small impediment did reduce my useful yield for the day, but I did manage to come away with a few keepers. Fashion wasn't the focus of what we were doing, but this one looked close enough to a fashion shot to me. We'll see if you agree.
This particular setup was intended to teach lighting and exposure skills, as well as posing skills. A black haired, fair skinned model, wearing black shirt, against black background. How to get background separation while keeping it black, and keep all tones within the limited dynamic range of a digital camera? What a great test! We put strip lights on either side of her, and a medium softbox on photographer's left.
Model is Eusebia, OMP 205164 / MM 48678.

I like the use of the light sources. You can tell there was more than one but not sure whether there was more than two. Nice shot. |

nice colors and clarity, but the bright lights on her right side should be more even with the other side. |

Beautiful skin and fabric highlights. Like the naturalness of the color and the line of the subject. Simple and well done. 10 |

Great pic but the background color is too close to the model's top and hair I think. |

Classic 'model' pose, beautiful skin tones, nice concept. Maybe add a hair light to separate her hair from the background a little more. Otherwise the lighting is really nice. |

Everyone in this challenge who used a full and real model for this challenge took a huge risk, as models have to have a certain "look" in fashion photography. In this photo I like that attention was paid to detail of where the hands were; little accessories not to cause distraction was a nice touch; the model is showing just enough neck in the right position and the shoulder isn't hunched, which is nice; the earrings, although large, work well in this shot; and I guess my only critique would be the hair. I would have liked a different hair style here and one not so "safe", if you will. The lips open just a tad is not a good thing in modeling though. Looks like she is trying to say something to the photographer through a smile. The eyes show nice expression as well, but the make up to the eyes and brows is a bit severe. A tad too dark. However, all in all a very good photo for the challenge. Good work. |
