Background and subject are burned out..... the photograph needs this, to obtain a real "fusion" between black and white. Now the white becomes black, and back.

Lacks a certain amount of clarity on this screen - whether it's the exposure, or what is hartd to tell, but it is difficult to look at - I wonder if you've taken the contrast on the figure too far in order to get the background that way?
