strikebishop, imho not stupid nor redundant ;) yes, it was a very lucky shot (took the edge off the ribbon but hey, if you don't shoot you don't ribbon ;) the shoot was specifically for the challenge and I submitted this shot from many (many) taken because of the 'figure' but never saw that 'it' was actually counting - you've made me think its even better now - thanks!
Taralyn, you may know it as ethyl alcohol, methanol, methyl isobutyl ketone or denatured alcohol?
Another from the same shoot - prancing horse?

Love the shot. The figure is the first thing I noticed, without reading the title. Please share what "meths" are/is? Thanks!!!! |

(This post may sound stupid or redundant, but I like to comment -before- I read other's comments. Keeps me non-biased)
I must say, for luck you sure hit this one on the nose! If the judges saw what my wife & I both saw, you would have made blue! The flame shape looks so much like a small humanoid figure (in flowing robes) standing on top of the coins, adding or tabulating on some kind of device or pad. (Probably a tax collector.) The figure is facing forward to the left looking down at his/her hands. I would say that the image carries a message about the burden of money. |

Thanks for all your comments folks :) and yikes! a yellow :)
For those that asked, yes, its a single shot and probably the least editing I've ever done to a pic (oh, and my trademark bad border!). The setup is £101 in change (yes, I counted it) and I just poured meths into the bowl and set light to it capturing 2 to 3 shots per 'light'. I have some pretty good flames but this one literaly jumped out.
When I was clearing up there was still meths in the bowl that I couldnt burn so (stupidly) I poured the coins onto another table and set light to them again and, after a scary moment I managed to quell the flames but sadly the table is no more! |

If anyone has ever told you not to play with fire, they were wrong. :-) This is one of the more interesting and better exposed fire shots I've seen here. And it's much safer than lighting your thumb on fire! |

This is truly amazing; the shape, the tone of the wood and coins. Rethink the border, it doesn't look professional. |

This is creative and very well done. The colours, exposure are great. How may tries you had having the quardian shape of the flames? Good luck! |

The shape of the flame does indeed look like some cloaked figure and the overall idea is good and well executed. I would probably liked more light on the coins and the border is a bit too distracting for me. |
