For those who thought it was no panning, I can assure them it was. But now I can see it was a bad idea to try to take this picture against the light. The front of the train, which is the sharp bit of the picture gets to dark and the effect is lost. Also, I could not work with low enough shutter speeds because I had no ND filters... |

Looks a little under exposed. |

The panning is not very evident |

sorry but it looks more like stopping action than it does like motion panning. |

Good shot. A slightly slower shutter speed would make it much more dramatic. |

oh, now taken at the right time of day and executed better, this would have been perfect. |

I like the idea but the shot doesn't have enough definition on the train. Maybe taken a little to late in the day. Nice idea though. |

2 things I'd do differently. Firstly the composition, either make the water a feature or the sky or crop into the train more. The train is lost at the moment on a middle horizon. Secondly, I'm starting to learn that the simpler the photo is the better. There is too much going on here and the eye doesn't know where to go. |

The front of the train appears to be in sharp focus, however I do not really see a blur to the background, or maybe it is a very slight bit of blur, but with the picture being so dark, I am having a tough time seeing enough detail to really judge the blur of the background which is what determines if panning has been used well |

not motion panning as background is sharp, and train blurry. but nice shot. |
