I gave it a 9. It's a shame that so many people vote on challenge content and how they 'think' it was taken, rather than the quality and technical aspect of the picture. When I'm voting I always think, if it's not legal it'll be DQ'd.

I didn't HOLD it i MOVED it when the dart was falling... that's what panning is about isn't it ? :D

Did you hold the camera on it's side ? Because if you didn't, you wouldn't be panning, you would be tilting and your image wouldn't fit the challenge ;-)
02/15/2006 01:08:07 AM
Ok... I will explain it to all those ubelievers over there. It actually IS motion panning, but if you could think a bit you would realise that you don't have to throw the dart.. The dart was falling vertically, my friend was dropping it and the background is a MAP... about 100photos. 1 chosen. Big thanks for the BELIEVERS :)This isn't about cheatin!!

IS THAT EVEN REAL????
02/14/2006 03:31:00 PM
How do i know this is a moving dart vs a stationary one and a blurred background? :) I'd guess the latter.
02/14/2006 01:03:54 AM
my personal opinion? it's too perfect of a shot, especially from a technical standpoint. without any blur or context from the background, it feels as sterile as something that comes from a lab.
02/13/2006 07:16:12 PM
Not sure how to vote on this one. Doesn't look like a panned shot, the dart is way too clear and the background out of focus. Love the shot, just not convinced it is a true panned shot. If this is panned it is truely outstanding. I don't want to mark you low on something I'm not sure about, I'll compromise and give you a 7. Good luck!
02/13/2006 02:14:11 PM
I keep looking at this and it seems like it is a "faked" motion pan. Create the background and setup the dart. There's no way that you could have gotten as tack sharp an image as this one. My thoughts ;)
02/13/2006 09:25:37 AM
Nice shot. Clean, simple, nice looking backgrounds. Great panning effect also.
02/13/2006 06:19:00 AM
I'll bet that one was hard to get.
02/12/2006 10:49:03 PM
Is this actually panned?
02/12/2006 06:36:53 PM
Best panning shot in the competition hands down no questions asked....but...if I was to ask a question I would want to know how you accomplished this brilliantly focused shot...colors are beautiful
02/12/2006 10:57:59 AM
Great colour. How did you do this? (is the dart fixed?).
02/11/2006 09:54:34 PM
how on earth did you do this? brilliant...great work and true to challenge, well done
02/11/2006 03:01:57 PM
wow.
02/11/2006 02:49:02 PM
If this is for real, it is brilliant!! Brilliant, you hear me!!?!!
02/11/2006 12:47:16 AM
Very sharp. nice work
02/10/2006 06:17:10 PM
Is that actually in flight or is it just laying on a glass table?
02/10/2006 05:44:34 PM
Wow this one looks like a winner. The coloring and perspective are wonderful.
02/10/2006 05:41:39 PM
Wonderful, I believe you have nailed the challenge.
02/10/2006 04:35:31 PM
First off, I barely qualify as an amature. But I am starting to realy enjoy this photo stuff. I'm gonna give this a 9. I suspect it is the perfect motion panning pic, but. Could this have been done by using Macro at high shutter speed on a dart with a distant obscure background that is out of focus. Maybe a differant background that showed the "panning" would have been better. Just wondering as I am egar to learn. Cool pic dude.
02/10/2006 01:33:15 PM
Either amazing panning, or just suspended and the background blurred. I can't decide! I'll give you the benefit of the doubt ...
02/10/2006 11:24:51 AM
This would be fantasic if it were actually motion panning capture of a dart in flight. I'm giving you a high score, but I'm suspicious that it isn't what it seems to be.
02/10/2006 07:47:38 AM
I want to know how this was done, way cool. 8
02/10/2006 12:31:33 AM
Very well done. Very difficult to get that dart sharp into flight, because it is so small. Curious how you did it (tried it myself, but totally failed, I sent it in anyway for comments that could possibly help me). 9.
02/09/2006 12:13:06 PM
Very nice capture...love the colors.
02/09/2006 11:16:04 AM
Just awesome. (9, and good luck!)
02/09/2006 09:10:41 AM
I like it... maybe a little more motion blur in the back ground though (I know that this is probably suspended though)
02/09/2006 06:45:04 AM
IS IT REALLY IN MOTION?IT IS DIFFICULT TO ANALYZE THE MOTION OF BACKGROUND
02/09/2006 02:29:29 AM
It looks fantastic!
02/09/2006 02:13:50 AM
how many takes? that's perfectly crisp.
02/08/2006 08:32:45 PM
I'm struggling to vote for this one. it's one of my favourite shot in the challenge, but I struggle to believe it was achived with motion panning. That said, many photographers are capable of achiving things I wouldn't even know how to do. I'll try to remember to look this up after the challenge.
02/08/2006 06:11:48 PM
not sure there is motion, but I like it
02/08/2006 05:52:58 PM
Wow! It looks like the dart is just floating. Please tell us how you did this.
02/08/2006 01:03:50 PM
Nice colors and composition. Looks like background blur is due more to DOF than to (minimal?) motion panning. A slower shutter speed would allow for motion blurring of the background to be made more evident by longer streaks.
02/08/2006 12:33:56 PM
I like it! I cant really say why, I just like it! I like the detail and sharpness of the dart and the speed in the background!
02/08/2006 10:28:46 AM
Looks more like shallow depth of field than panning.
02/08/2006 09:43:43 AM
wow! how did u do that! it looks so cool!
02/08/2006 09:37:13 AM
Good Shot!
02/08/2006 09:03:36 AM
I'm intrigued as to how this was done, as it would require an amazing ability to capture the dart so perfectly using a normal panning technique. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt. Well done.
02/08/2006 08:59:07 AM
Giving this an 7 for the technical merit: the dart is extremely sharp, especially considering this is a panning shot. As a composition, I don't think this is an interesting picture, though.
02/08/2006 08:05:14 AM
I'd like to see this hot uncropped
02/08/2006 06:36:29 AM
Very cool but blur looks like out of focus and very little like motion blur. Still pretty good.
02/08/2006 06:17:59 AM
so cool :D the border is a bit thick, but anyway its a really nice image, 7
02/08/2006 05:39:04 AM
WOW!!! Love the rich coloration and tack sharp dart.
02/08/2006 01:08:58 AM
like it alot what a capture
02/07/2006 09:14:35 PM
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner! 10
02/07/2006 08:09:09 PM
Great shot, just don't see the motion, rather looks like DOF...
