So there's a few minutes before the roll-over and I can take a some of them to say something about this image. I love visiting Cornell's Sapsucker Woods! My parents took us there when we were still very young and this barn was still part of a working enterprise. I never discovered the barn until these many years later when the nature trails had been revamped and a new research building put up.

This is one of the places I discovered the wonder of birds. This is one of the places where the air always clears your head. This is one of the places that is everyone's special secret--we all own it and share it at the same time.

For this image I wanted to create tensions--above and below, cold and warm, freeze and thaw. I had to play alot to get the warmth of the yellows to stay on the barn while keeping the cool blues in the water and sky. Other than that, it's just nice to look at (I hope).

Oh, if you're wondering where you saw it before, look for my Best of 2004 entry. Gary, I hope you like this one just as well!

Edits: Mostly levels, hue/sat and other things legal in basic editing...a little cloning to remove distractions...a little selective lightening for drama and darkening to tone down distractions. (I really feel like I'm beginning to be able to achieve the vision in my head sometimes!)

This is a striking photo, beautifully composed and rendered. You've maintained great warmth despite the ice and blue/grey tones. We used to take our kids to Sapsucker Woods as well, but I don't remember this spot.

This shot is excellente, simple composition, uncluttered, and dramatic with the reflections. I looked at your best of 2004 and this shot (Brief Winter Thaw) is definately the winner, congratulations...Ciao

sorry, i don't feel tensions...i'm too caught up in the abject beauty of the image. what you've captured takes away the cold i might otherwise be feeling. it's a perfect moment lit by a hole in fast moving winter clouds. simply beautiful.

If your intent was to create tensions, you did a wonderful job. If you look at only the bottom two thirds, it's calm, peaceful, restful. If you take the top two thirds, it seems dark, brooding, and a bit foreboding. Taken overall it's an amazing, gorgeous photo.

wow, incredible. Love the colors and shape of the clouds, the reflection of the barn in the ice is so clear. My favorite so far. 10

Looks like the style of Heida here at DPC. Not sure if it is, but if not, I am marking it as a favorite as I love her style of photography. The dark ominous sky in hues of blue is very attractive to me. The detail of the building is also very good. I can feel the shot, and that is nice. A 10.

Hmmm, looks familiar. I'm guessing this is you, KaDi. I have to say I like yours better than mine. You really captured the stormy mood with this. Beautiful!

This is the 2nd Kip's Barn and another excellent photo. Where is this popular place or are you a husband/wife team of shooters? 9
