I was looking through "Apature" last week and liked some of the rich B&W work, so I tried to get the same feel and came up with this & a few others.

I decided to shoot something with alot of texture but not alot of tonal variations, so I could show off the texture. The grainy wood is part of the back sair to my house, the wood was salvaged off a pump house that I took down. I found the leaf a few feet awayand I thought it's tonal range would match the wood but the veigning would contrast nicely.

It was about 3:30 and the area was in shadow, with some bounce off the house to the right edge of the photo.

Post processing. Raw conversion , dump to PS where I copied the layer, then went to channels, copied blue, and pasted in layers, same with green. blended them 40-60 and combined layers. Copied again set copy to multiply, 40% opacity and then addded in a soild color layer of a dark green and set it to overlay. flattened layes and ran levels very little adjustment and then usm at 85, .05, 0. saved for web.
Does that make any sense? Any questions feel free to ask. B.

Very Nice BrennanOB.
Excellent in every way. I love the wood grain here and the addition and positioning of the leaf.

10 :)

I love this, excellent work. I wish the DPC community had more of a wide ranging taste for what is beauty too. However I appreciate this effort, it's really really great work. I'd like to know more about how you "saw" this, shot it, and processed it.

Nice coloration. The textural variation is interesting with the striations on the wood and the veins of the leaf.

This is really great...nice velvety feel and good three dimensionality. Maybe could do with a shift towards blackness but that could be my monitor. Plus leaf would have been better placed on the uniform vertical part of the grain...at the moment it is a little confused with the swirly part in the bottom left. Honestly, if no-one else likes this then it's their loss and indicative of the rather restricted outlook of our fellow DPCers. I think it's 'phloem' too.
