 I thought about entering this photo in the Jan. Free Study but opted for something different. This photo was taken at Ground Zero in NYC. This was my first trip to NYC and my first chance to go to the location where the World Trade Center buildings once stood to pay my respects. On the site is this simple cross made of steel beams from the buildings. It was very emotional for me. The background of this photo consisted of a building on the left and blue sky on the right. I felt that the background was too busy and detracted from the simple peace of the cross. So I used the lasso in Photoshop to highlight the cross, inverted, and then used gaussian blur. Added a white border for added effect. I hope everyone else can feel a little bit of the peace I feel every time I look at this photo.

Powerfully emotive image. Beautiful combination of softness and focus. Great variation in soft tones as well. Nice work.

Powerful picture in my mind, especially considering the subject. Made me think about an old co-worker named Terrance Aiken who worked in the World Trade Center and lost his life that day. I'll have to select this as a favorite as a memory of his life. Thanks for posting it and identifying its significance.
