Just a little too indistinct to really work which is a shame as the colours are great and the capture of the formation is wonderful

A nice idea, but the image is way too noisy for me to appreciate it. What was your ISO setting here? Also, the colors of the sky haven't really appeared very well (likely as a result of your presumably high ISO).

the lighting is a little strange and the subject matter is so far away that it appears to be more about the scenery and less about the subject.

Photo seems a bit grainy. The colour of the sky is lovely, but I'd prefer to see a bit more of the birds.
