The photographer, George Hurrell. Obviously he is a master of light & shadows, to which I am just a lowly little girl with a camera who loves the Starlet look. So getting some nice dramatic light, shadows & contrasts were key to me. I think I came pretty close, at least I'd like to think I did. In trying to get a darker looking image, I kept lighting to a minimum which was a big mistake. Had to really do a lot of adjusting in post processing to levels and curves and other layer masks which in turn raised the noise levels. What I've learned: LIGHTING IS GOOD, LIGHTING IS YOUR FRIEND. :-)

I went back and forth about a million times about the title... should I list his name, should I not.... In the end I caved and did it. Original Title "The Starlet".

Thank you to :-)Jaxed for putting up with me. You were a wonderfully patient model.

You've managed to get that 1930's hollywood look off perfectly. One of the best tributes so far. Love it. 10

If someone says (an they will) that this is soft and or gainy send em a nastygram this is a (almost) perfect period piece... needs just a touch of blue cast but a very very good shot -9-

The lighting in this image is great! Wonderful look in her eyes too! Kinda reminds me of Teri Hatcher but done in a Mayfield way. Great job! 7

Berniece Abbott once said something to the effect, when shooting a picture the most importent part of the image of a person is their eyes. If the eyes are in focus that will be a great image. Thus the 9 on this one.
Between the eyes and the background lighting this is an amazing shot.

nice attempt. I think Hurrell would have used even more dramatic lighting, but I see it here. The model is appropriately glamorous. The lit background is excellent. 7
